Australian Embassy Celebrates International Literacy Day at Cikini Library

The Australian Embassy in Jakarta celebrated International Literacy Day 2023 at the Australian Reading Corner, Jakarta Library, Cikini, Thursday (9/14).

The literacy participated by 50 students from SDN Kebun Jeruk 10, SDN Santa Ursula Jakarta and Baca TaCita Community was filled with a storytelling and storytelling session with Australian writer, David O'Shea.

Jakarta Library and Archive Agency (Dispusip) Head, Firmansyah Wahid expressed his party had held activities to celebrate Literacy Day on September 8-12. That was why, he appreciated the Australian Embassy for holding similar activities today.

"We have one vision, we are both concerned about building a reading culture," he said.

He also thanked the Australian Embassy for adding 21 new reading book titles on the themes of children, fashion, architecture, art, and Australian tourism to the Cikini Library.

He added this additional book would add to the library collection, thus people who want to know more about Australia could get knowledge at Australia Corner.

"Thank you for the donation for the book. Hopefully, it will be useful for Jakarta residents who visit this Library," he expressed.

Counselor for Media, Public Diplomacy, Scholarship, and Alumni of the Australian Embassy in Jakarta, Nicola Campion explained that today's activities are a series of international literacy celebrations that will be held by her party from September 8-17.

On this day, it was enlivened by reading stories from books entitled "Possum Magic" and "Class of Nine".

"The story was read directly by the author, David O'Shea. Hopefully, the story he told will inspire the young generation," she stated.
